RiAus Programs

In addition to its seasonal events, held at the Science Exchange in Adelaide, RiAus runs a number of other programs as part of its mission to increase public engagement with science.

FREE RANGE SCIENCE

FR science - Programs page 100px

As a national centre, RiAus takes its activities beyond South Australia with Free Range Science. The program, launched in 2009, brings science to venues in regional Victoria, from pubs to community halls, ovals and gardens. Following the successful pilot in the Grampians, in 2010 we will be going into the Barwon South West and Gippsland regions. Audiences can find out about  new scientific developments, put their questions to the scientists, and explore the latest technologies.

CSIRO TEACHER TOURS

The annual CSIRO Teacher Tour - now in its fourth year - is a partnership between  RiAus, the South Australian Government's Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS) and the CSIRO.

Coordinated by the CSIRO Preventative Health Flagship in Adelaide and hosted by CSIRO research facilities around the country, the tour enables classroom teachers to participate in a range of current research and topical science experiences in various state and territory capitals. Through their participation, teachers meet and interact with scientists from a range of areas - including preventative health, food production, gene technology, materials science, taxonomy and astronomy - then  share what they have learned with peers and students on their return to the classroom.

The 2010 Tour will take place in October (dates and locations to be confirmed). Details of how to apply coming soon...
